# Dashboards, reports & drilldowns

Every useful summary should lead back to the work behind it.

A workbook’s Dashboard and Reports areas summarize its work. The workspace Dashboards & reports directory also brings saved layouts together; workspace overview layouts can draw from multiple workbooks. A layout stores definitions and connections, not a second copy of the records.

## Build a useful summary

- Choose New dashboard or New report. Describe a result, start from a suggestion, or build from scratch.
- Add metrics, bar/donut charts, daily/weekly/monthly trends, progress toward a goal, record tables, agendas, and explanatory text.
- Use Customize to select sources, filters, widths, and ordering. The inspector separates Data from Appearance and previews each block.
- Preview the result, inspect its records, then save or enable the reviewed layout.

## Check what a number means

A source can be all sheets in scope, one sheet, or a saved view. Numeric measures use one sheet and field so unrelated units are not silently combined. Calculations query the complete authorized dataset, rather than only loaded table pages. Select a figure, segment, or trend point to open matching records; drilldowns can page through the full selection.

A chart’s Other group represents an actual drilldown. Missing or deleted fields produce a repair state instead of inventing values. If a total surprises you, inspect its scope, filters, date interpretation, and source field before changing the display.

## Share an appropriate output

Internal layout links require normal workspace access. Print / PDF opens a clean browser print canvas without navigation, editor controls, or chat. Printed tables and agendas retain their compact preview; use drilldowns for the complete underlying selection. Report narrative is editable, while its figures remain live until captured in a print/PDF snapshot.

> **Permissions** Viewers can explore and print. Editing requires workspace write access, and archived workbook layouts are read-only. Deleting a layout preserves its source records.
